How to use this calculator

Find how much a percentage discount saves you, then optionally apply a tax percentage to the discounted price. The calculator shows the discount savings separately from the final total.

  1. Enter the original price before the discount.
  2. Enter a discount between 0% and 100%.
  3. Enter an optional tax percentage to apply after the discount, or leave it at zero.
  4. Read the final price, discount savings and discounted price before tax.

Calculation formulas

A 20% discount followed by 10% tax

Original price: $100 · Discount: 20% · Tax: 10%

Discount savings
$20.00
Discounted price
$80.00
Final price with tax
$88.00

The discount takes $20 off the original $100 price. Applying 10% tax to the remaining $80 adds $8, giving a final price of $88.

Useful to know

The tax input adds tax after the discount; it does not remove tax already included in a price. Shipping and fixed fees are not included. Use the same currency throughout.

Frequently asked questions

Does the savings figure include tax?

No. It is the amount removed from the original price by the discount. Any tax you enter is calculated separately on the discounted price.

Can I calculate two discounts in a row?

Yes, in two calculations. Apply the first discount with tax set to zero, then use that discounted price as the original price for the second calculation. A 20% discount followed by 10% off gives 28% total savings, not 30%.

What happens with a 100% discount?

The discounted price is zero. Applying a percentage tax to zero also gives zero. Separate fixed charges would need to be added outside this calculator.

What if the displayed price already includes tax?

Set tax to zero if you only want to apply the discount to that displayed price. Entering a tax percentage would add another tax amount to the discounted price.
